We are happy to announce that we are enriching the IPH with a brand new course: Archaeological Methodology and Theory held by professor Gabriele Gattiglia. Why do we study archaeology? Which topics does archaeology investigate? What answers can it give? What methods does it employ, and how have recent technical developments revolutionised the discipline? How do archaeologists interpret the data gathered into a narrative about the past? How have theoretical and interpretative frameworks changed over time? The course of Archeological Methods and Theory provides an overview of archaeological investigation practices and the main developments in theoretical thinking that have taken place since the 20th century. It will provide students with a critical understanding of the archaeological method and theory necessary to understand the discipline and answer those questions.
